Introduce Myself (Day 1)

I didn't want this to just turn into me venting about guild/raid issues so I decided to follow up on Spellbound's writing challenge so I can write about Warcraft but also on things tangential to my normal vectors (I like math).

So - today I have to introduce myself. I hate talking about myself. But.

One of the reasons I started this blog was to give myself a regular writing outlet. I have been writing stories and essays as far back as I can remember, it has been the one true passion in my life. But I loose sight of it a lot. I went to a technical school and work as a programmer. I get diverted by music a lot and make some clumsy efforts at song writing. I minored in art because I wanted to be a draftsman and painter. But I believe at my core, what I do best, is write.

I've had some mild success with it - some plays I wrote were put up in tiny off-Broadway productions, a couple of stories I wrote wound up in small-time magazines, and I was recently one of the winners of the Blizzard writing contest. I've written a couple of books but haven't found a publisher yet and am starting to lean more and more towards self-publishing (if independent movies and music work and are legitimate, why not independent writing?)

Outside of my creative pursuits (which I will admit Raiding has cut into) I am married to my wife of nearly six years, and last year, we had a baby, who's four months old now and is really awesome in every way possible. I can't wait to teach him to play the guitar and tank raids. I work as a programmer and find the work challenging and interesting, and I live in New York City where I indulge heavily in nerdy and hipster culture.

From playing boardgames and role-playing games with dice and character sheets to attending unannounced metal and indy shows in basement bars in the Lower East Side - New York really defines my lifestyle in ways that no other city has.

Warcraft started as a hobby and has become a component to my lifestyle. I am not a closet-case and frequently RealID guildies and friends, Facebook friend them, and have met up with several people I met through Warcraft to great and fruitful ends. One of the best vacations of my life was when we went to visit a couple  we met on Warcraft and stayed with them for a week in Scotland.

Anyway. That's probably more than enough about me. I feel dirty for all this self-indulgence, but the rest of the topics should be fairly funny I think.
